GPSTC Guru Hardie has invited us "poms" (is that the correct spelling?) to join the GPS Team Challenge with a UK / Eire team, or several teams.
The competition is already global with teams outside Aus, from NZ, Japan, Croatia and Slovenia
Looks great fun and good competition, and a great way to get windsurfers into GPS sailing, and speed.
Have a look at the GPSTC, see what you think, we can use this topic to disguss teams etc
We probably have 'til the end of the year to get organised before the start of the 2010 GPSTC season (I presume it runs from Jan-Dec)

You and I Alastair, the "Celtic Dragons"
Come on folks, GPSTC is not about super fast speed strips and fast 2sec and 10s speeds, those occurences are a rarity. It's all about team spirit and a healthy competition base, good fun, and a less dawnting entry for newbies into GPS and speed.
Looking at the scoring criteria, really lends itself to any stretch of water around and in the UK and Eire.
Granted WK is good for 10s , 2sec and alphas, but dire for NM and 1hrs (too many gybes) and only fires up a few times a year for proper speeds.
Please lets have your thoughts / ideas and suggestions for team regions and names.
Cheers
H

Might be able to tempt some of the St Johns boys to play: Mad Dave, Bryn are you up for it? Actually a Cornish Team is more tempting - Adam, Simon, Johnny Vapor...

Keep it coming folks!
The Country (ies) could be split, based on regions
South West
South
South East
East
North / North West
Scotland ?
Wales ?
RoI
Channel Islands
If there is sufficient uptake from each region, more than one team might be appropriate, introducing a little more inter region competition.
Trying to avoid the cliche of the North South divide, perhaps that might have to be an option, based on uptake.
This is fully inclusive for all GPS Speedsurfers in the UK and Eire, Inland & Coastal spots
Riks Rippers
Portland crew
Ray crew
WK crew
Your thoughts?

Yes guys and gals please join us, the more the merrier!! It is firstly about fun and building relationships, or you can be as serious as you want!! The 1 hour, The Alpha & Distance have equal weighting and importance as the speed categories. We've had people pushing the distance categories up to over 400km in a day!! And it takes the individual stuff to a team perspective. Thanx

It's great to see other countries getting on board.
I need to build a map before we can let you loose though, and to do that I need to know which regions you think would give a good division between people in the same country.
Are the regions you selected earlier in this thread what you think would work well? If so then I'll build the map.

Hi Ben,
I'm suprised mate, there appears to be very little interest from Uk sailors - I'm not sure why at present, perhaps due to the persistant high pressure over the UK, therefore most speedies are not checking here as regularly as when there's wind and sessions are being posted.
Only Alastair over in the Republic of Ireland has organised a team so far :)
Thanx for your input JP, I think we need a little more time and encouragement over here, perhaps I should n't have mentioned starting in 2010 rather than right here right now.
cheers
H

Howard, count me in. I mostly sail speed at WK but also post on Riks ladder. I emailed Rik last week to see what his thoughts were but he's away in Ireland at the moment and I haven't had a reply. Should hopefuly hear back from him soon. Ta, Mark
