  KA Sails 6.6
9/18/2006Brett White

Just wanting to find out about the range of this sail especially the bottom end. I will be using it on an Exocet TB62 and I weigh 87kg. I noticed the KA Sails are quite short in the boom length compared to other brands and was wondering if this hinders it'd bottom end. Has anyone done some comparisions.

Thanks

In my humble opinion, the bottom end of this sail is excellent. It can be rigged for a very large range and with a few small adjustments can feel good in it all. Even rigged in the middle and left that way it has a wide range, but you will get more out of it with subtle adjustments to the downhaul and outhaul.

Brett, I am pretty similar weight to yourself and have used my KA6.6 on the Hypersonic and Carve 135. I am a pure novice specially cf Andrew Daff but would suggest that you will have no problems with the bottom range of this sail. It is a very intuative sail to rig. ie rig it to look good on the beach and it feels good on the water. Just a couple of millimetres downhaul variation and small outhaul tweak is all that is necessary. The other day I was caught out in a rapidly fading evening breeze of about 8-10 knots. One puff came through between 10-12 knots enough to pop me on the plane for a long 27 knot run. Admittedly I had to walk home after that as the breeze had faded to zero during the run. I have just purchased myself an 8.5 KA Formula sail and believe that these two sails will have a huge overlap and that realistically the 6.6 shouldn't come out of its bag in under 15 knots.
