| I was reading that Kean rogers has a sputnik 270 WCE that he often uses. Het gets great speeds out off it! Are there more of you, who uses this board?
If have on now, never used it before. Want to use it with 5.4 / 6.2 / Maybe 6.6 and MAYBE 7.2
Which combo's do you guys use with this board (sail and fin)?
Thanks, Marco Bal

| G'day Marco,
biggest sail I use on the 270 is an old 1992 spec 5.7. You could use a new style 6.2 or 6.6 quite easily. With that size sail run a 32cm fin. For best speeds I use a 5.0 with a 29cm fin. Keep the fin loaded and set the mastfoot and footstraps back as far as they will go. You want to ride the tail as much as possible, specially in chop to keep the nose up. At 90 degrees to the wind beware of burying the nose, learn to sail bewteen the chop and keep momentum going, hitting the back side of the chop will really slow the board. Off the wind at 130 degrees the board lets loose and flies, you can ride the fin and skim over chop, just keep the sail loaded up at all times.

| Kean, thanks a lot for your information! With the next speedy day here in Holland, i hope i can use the board for the first time to get my average as high as possible ;-)

| Used the Sputnik last friday for the first time. Never sailed a board that small. Max was 60 km/hr, so promising.
I have got the feeling that the 32.5 cm (250 M2)Concrete Wave E-80 Slalom fin is i bit to big. When pushing the fin maximum I never got a spin out, and i have got the feeling that it is somewhat to big.
I want to have a fin as small a possible to get high speeds on flat water (used it with a 6.2 Saber).
Any recommendations? | | | |
| G'day Marco, I use a 29 cm Curtis fin from 1993, it is a elliptical shaped fin like a Spitfire wing. The planform was developed by Bernie Brandstatter for Bjorn Dunkerbeck. Best speed I've had so far with it is 39.3 knots. The Hurricane Slalom fins are similar in shape, http://www.hurricanefins.de/html/slalom_fins.html , also the Deboichet Easy slalom, http://www.deboichetcustom.com/pinne/pinna_wave.htm , and the Select Lightning speed, http://www.select-hydrofoils.com/fins/windsurf/pro_series/lightning_speed.wrd?catid=1&rangeid=72&smsid=c966ff464598083abd03c06d6bb70ab5 . These are the closest in shape that are available in Europe, they should all work in the Sputnik WCE 270. Roo | | | |
