gps-speedsurfing
Hello everybody, After many years of wave/ freeride windsurfing I started an attempt to speedszrfing in 2014. Due tue an injury I only had a couple of sessions. Now I am wondering which size of speedboard to use. I am quite tall (197) and heavy (106 kg). My smallest wave quad is 91litres, ny biggest freewave is 115. For speedsurfing I use a Naish grand prix 95 and a F2 SX XS ( 80 Litres). I have three sails, a gaastra phanom 5,7, a vapor 6.4 and a ohantom 7.1. I felt that the boards are too close together and wondered whether I could replace the sx by a smaller speedboard such as a patrik speed 48 or a manta 49. However, considering my weight I wonder whether I should really go smaller than 80 Litres ( would never do that on a wave board). On the other hand, a speedboard of about 70 litres is considered big and the information on the homepages say that even heavy sailors can use these boards in only 25 knots.I consider myself not an excellent, but a reasonable sailor who can handle small boards, but on the other hand 70 litres is quite small for a 106 kg person and I want to get back to the beach somehow. Which size would you recommend for a small speed board in addition to the Naish grand prix 95? Looking forward to your suggestions Best Seb

Hi Sebastian, I would suggest keeping the 80 litre board as its a good size, then maybe add a board in the 70 liter 50 wide range, Manta 49, JP50, Falcon speed , etc ...  this size will be perfect with your 5.7

Cheers

Ian

Take a few steps maybe?

First get comfy on your smallest board also in its lightwind range and only then go to a smaller size in mid-highwind range.

With your weight it is definately possible to sail boards of around 65 liters, but you need time on the water to get used to it.

Boards that Ian mentions are definately good options.
