gps-speedsurfing

There is a new (hopefully final) test version of GPSLogIt on my website www.gps-speed.com

http://www.gps-speed.com/GPSLogItV1.8trial.apk

highlight are:

  • Dopplerspeeds from the cellphone's integrated GPS-chipsets recorded (SBP- or GPX-format)
  • on-the-fly-computation of all relevant categories (max, 2s, 10s, 1h, 250m, 2500m, 1852m (nautical mile), and Alpha)
  • voice output of speeds above a selectable minimum speed and last run of the zoomed-in category
  • light-version of GPSResults can process SBP-and SBN-files (from GT11/31)
  • direct upload of the results to GPSSpeedSurfing

Have a good time,

Manfred

Game changing app, great work Manfred. Speed chat is invaluable for tuning and testing. Make sure you uninstall any previous version before loading.

In the US a complete package of phone, water proof bag and earphoes and app worked out at $97.

Cheapest Android phone I could find was the Alcatel One Touch Evolve 2. Cost all of USD$34.83 at Walmart. Resolution is 0.019 knots. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Family-Mobile-Alcatel-Evolve-2-Smartphone/39150760

H2O Audio Amphibx waterproof bag was USD$31.99 from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BU8F6G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

Waterproof headphones were USD$12.99 from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AJD0GSY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

How long should the battery last for a telephone as above running the app?

Last Friday I had used it for four hours with the 'Screen On' option in order to always see the speeds, WLAN(WiFi) and Bluetooth off (flight mode) and the battery was at about 50% at the end of the day (Samsung Galaxy J1). However, this of course depends on your smartphone...

BTW, I would not go for the cheapest phone, even if they show a good speed resolution, the GPS sensitivity and stability may be bad (e.g. Huawei Y330). The Samsung Galaxy J1 (80€) is very good and I use it all the time with a transparent hardcover to avoid incidential key and touchscreen actions.
