My session was cut short today, while getting upwind I had the misfortune to be drawn into Rocky Point intending to gybe on the flat water between the waves at the end of the break.
Before I realised I was in trouble, a 4 footer jacked up in front of me, I was doing about 26kt and was not able to take avoiding action so launched an aerial of the back of it.
Once in the air I parted company with my kit and it flew off whilst I dropped like a stone into the back of the wave.
I was almost in tears when I looked at the damage, 6 broken battens and 3 pockets completely ripped open. On a positive note I came away unscathed.
