Second event of the Strath Summer Slalom(1 hour) Series and my first slalom race for about 5 years...
The last 1 hour race I did I shoud have changed to my bigger sail rigged on the beach. I made the same mistake again and should have rigged 10m but only got to the lake with enought time to rig 7.7 after a morning with the kids. The wind looked as though it had come in and with no time for a test sail I took the gamble on the 7.7 on the Godzill with 46 Katana. I got away to a good lead at the start but soon found that pinching to the top orange mark was not an option. I couldn't see any middle buoy, only a white one 100m downwind so I went broad and punched back ok to the launch buoy. I made 9 laps and was only able to gybe the orange buoy about 3 times, the rest were tacks. Another lesson learned and I only ever make the same mistake twice! I dont think I would have got any more laps in if I had come in and rigged the 10m during the race though. A fin change might have helped with pointing perhaps.
I was great to be on the water with some great sailors and a variety of kit. Peak speed for the race was 27.5! Woohoo. Time to do some forearm training - a once a month sail doesn't help the grip strength. Well done to PJ on 12 laps - reckons he didn't know the race was on B-)
Went for a quick spin up the top after the race on the Mistral but there were too many holes, got my peak on the way back down.
