It had been many years since sailing at Brancaster but remembering how exposed it was Jamie and I gave it a go with SSW winds forecast.
The speed area is to the left/west of the golf club as the dunes are lower, with the shoreline slowly curving 2 miles round to the northwest. In a SSW this meant the fastest section was the end of the run just before the golf club. The water got smoother nearer to high tide - I would say 1 hour either high tide would be optimum.
The wind was howling when we arrived and on the first run I clocked my fastest 10 sec of the day, unfortunately from then on the wind slowly decreased (contrary to forecast!) but I think it shows the potential of the place.
Great to broad reach for 2 miles, metres from the shore and a good mix of blasting and speed runs. Brilliant days sailing and I broke my nautical mile PB but not quite 30kts!
