The afternoon session at Weymouth was completely different from the first. The grey and the rain was replaced by lovely sunshine, the wind changed direction and the chop subsided (n.b. the wind also dropped to about 18 knots). I toyed with the idea of rigging up my 7.2m RS:Slalom MKII but with the session about to start, I opted for the 6.2m that I had already rigged first in the morning and attached it to my 89L slalom board. I jumped on board and headed off downwind to where the previous course had begun. The course was changed slightly from the previous session and was now being run from a boat at the south end of the beach to a beach finish at the north end. I felt like I got some good speed out of what little wind there was and peaked at just over 30 knots with an unofficial 500m run of 27.8 knots - not bad in 18 knots with a 6.2m sail! I may have gone better on my bigger sail but on the upside, I was able to focus on finesse and getting maximum speed from the kit that I was on. My official result was 25.97 knots but the 590m course included more lulls than my (better) GPS based 500m runs. My ranking for the day was 28 out of 72 sailors so I was just about in the top half of the fleet.

Personal records for the nautical mile and 1 hour average speed!
