A decent day at West Kirby. Only decided to go at about 10pm the evening before when Bob sent me a text to see if i was up for it. Left the South Coast at 2.30am and were out sailing at West Kirby at about 7.30am. Just Bob and myself out on the lake for the first 2 hours or so.
Wind was pretty steady and was blowing around 30-35 knots with the odd gust a bit stronger - a decent angle at approx. 120 degrees (west wind). After lunch wind went more into the North and dropped a bit making the course a bit too broad.
Really pleased with these speeds - I was on an iSonic 87 with a 28cm tectonics fin, board felt a bit big in the gusts but sailed pretty solid for most of the day. Am keen to get a speed board and give it a proper crack - am after a Tabou Manta 49 but hard to get 2nd hand at the moment!! Bob did some pretty good speeds (as usual) - his slowest speed on the dial was just about my best!! Had problems with the cambers on the Naish Stealth (2006) coming off the mast when i was desperately sheeting out at the bottom of the course - they kept popping off the mast - is that normal or have i just rigged it badly??
All in all a great day - as Bob said when we were rigging up "it's just so exciting as you never know how fast it's going to be until that first run".
