What was supposed to be the baptism of fire for the W54 (commonly known as 'vuurengeltje') ended in crash and burn...
When we arrived on the scene the wind was a lot stronger that predicted and almost everybody rigged 6.3. Using the same sail size I decided to give the W54 a first try. Can't say I'm disappointed, on the contrary, what a great board! Feels easy like my W53, but accelerates much faster. It also feels just as safe as my W53, provided the pilot doesn't have the eyesight of a blind cow, ahem.
Just as I was settling in and starting to get some nice runs in, I completely overlooked a sand bar. This fella has claimed some more victims in the recent past, but wasn't satisfied yet apparenly. I came out with relative light damage: sail torn, boomhead broken and a snapped harness line, but Anne Evert had crashed just before me and his boom is now a DIY kit.
Ah well, we completed the walk of shame and fortunately a bit of help getting out of the water again. Thanks boys! On to the next (crashfree, fingers crossed) session!
