Was meant to be a cruise day for me at a local event, 'Tropical Joyride', an island, long distance,  crossing along the coast some 15 km with some slalom racing when arrive at the destination point then the race distance back BUT winds too light to allow for a safe distance crossing. My goal was to pleasure cruise not race on this island adventure with safety of boat and other sailors. instead the event organisers stayed at point desny location setting up a slalom course up by the reef (some two miles out and upwind). Only got a decent run in the choppy part of the latge lagoon area. winds and rain most often killing the wind. Was really a 9.2 or 8.6m day, or use of a plus 120 litre volume board. But even the guys on bigger kit all stopped in the lulls too.  If you ever get out here to point desny and its an hour after low tide beware and take care to sail mainly in the area parallel along and near the public beach to aorund 300 yards out from it. Beyond that the low coral beds under the water on the ebbing tide will grind your fin (and you if you fall in on them) helps to wear neoprene shoes and long legged wetsuit rather than shortie unless youre local and really know every spot theres coral beds.
