Sunday 9th October - Windsurf *** - River Orwell at Levington – sunny and mild.

Foil – 19.05 knot max, 18.07 knot ave., 8.61 knot hour, 15.24 knot mile, 47.66 km., 15.28 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and an Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Thunderbird 6.5.

With sunshine and a good breeze from the south forecast for today I was not sure what to do, The Manor or a trip to Levington, in the end being a sunny Sunday I though parking might be tight at Felixstowe plus with high water in the middle of the day and if the wind picked up there might be a bit of a shore dump so headed over to the Marina. I was late getting there with three others ready to go, Robert, Ian and Andy with Michael arriving later using sails between 5.6 and 6.5 with a good breeze blowing down the Orwell, plenty of water too:) I set up quickly, using my 6.5once again with the hope it was windy enough for some gybe practice in the flat water, when the wind was up it was ready good but sadly there was a lot of lulls. Still, it was lovely to be out in the warm sunshine with loads of yachts too as I slowly made my way upwind towards the docks gybing in the gusts. After an OK start the wind went particularly patchy so I returned back towards the marina as everyone else headed ashore. Then the breeze swung a tad east with some nice gusts coming through once again and I had the best hour of the session in flat water as the tide turned. After about 80 gybes I was getting knackered so started back, I then noticed Mag by our van, she had biked down for lunch, with the camera so turned I had one more run across the river before calling it a day. I put my wetsuit on the bench to dry and had a lovely lunch with Mag in the van enjoying the lovely views:) I then have a long walk to the shower block before returning to pack up and drive home. So, an OK session despite the patchy wind, you certainly can’t complain about the lovely mild weather!
Might be enough wind for a tip to the Stour tomorrow, will make up my mind up in the morning?
