After a long spell with a huge high pressure over the UK meaning light winds today there was a fresh breeze from the south forecast and with high water at 11 and rain coming at lunch time I thought Levington was probably the best venue as did 5 wingers and three more windsurf foilers! I arrived at the marina at 8.50 and our launch area was blocked by a large pipe meaning we had to walk 200m or so to launch which was not too bad! The fresh breeze certainly had not arrived when I took my board to the launch area, I used my lightweight board today as it is easier to carry! Sail choice was a bit of a problem, it was gusting 16/19 mph and with it building I went for my 5.7 which was a big mistake, by the time I was ready to set off the wind had eased back, even the wingers were struggling with 5/6m wings and the windsurf foilers were not even close to flying on 6.6 and 5.3 so I waited for ages hacvinng a chat and taking pics of the action including a good turn-out of racing yachts! One of the foilers came in and rigged 9m which was only marginally better! One of the lightweight windsurf foilers with a big front wing and 6m was going now and then I was tempted out as the sun was out! I had an hour floundering around with nowhere near enough sail, I needed my 7.5 at least and the 9m was only going in patches although as usual the wingers can get flying in next to nothing! In the end I was the only one left on the water as the sun disappeared and I was left sailing across the river in front of the marina gybing round a yacht and a channel marker post when the wind suddenly picked up and I ended up having a good hour doing a slalom figure of eight doing loads of gybes around the post, good fun in the end. The wind went patchy once more so I called it a day and headed in, I walked my board back to the tailer and had a shower just as the rain arrived and I ended up packing up in the wet! I might have another go tomorrow if not raining too hard and I can’t do Tuesday as our van is in the garage for a service/mot!
