GPS results first competition day Mondial du Vent

Totally different game compared to GPS Speed, learned a lot today and had good fun. Was on the beach at 9am, wind was good enough for 5,5 already and normally wind increases a lot around 10 or 11 with these forecast. So didn't even think about rigging my 6,4, but i was so wrong by didn't pay attention to the clouds! We parked the van in between the competition area and the wooden pier, Wouter wanted to do GPS speed and cruised upwind, i went 2,5 km downwind to the competition area. So change equipment was not possible during competition. When i arrived for the first heat with my 5,5/45/20 i was on the smallest equipment of everybody. Most riders were on 7,0 or 6,4. Managed to do some runs, but these were not fast at all for this small set. After the first heat went back to the car and rigged my 6,4/50/23. When heat 2 started the wind shifted to N and increased, so again i went down with my 5,5. During the heat the wind decreased again and was again underpowered. Good lesson for heat 3, i went out with my 6,4 set and made my fastest 500 meter of the day in the and this was the least windiest heat. 

The wind on the course was super gusty, it was a battle to get a free spot on the course. Kiters are able to depower and to sail 1km/h, so if you are behind them its not nice. I have to learn how to sail very slow with my 53 liter board to get a free course in front of me. At the end of the day most people were tired (including me) so less people on the course and this was much better. Wish i could join Wouter at this super spot 5km upwind of the competition area, he did almost 48 knots topspeed!
