Nice little mission to Ado's Secret Spot #2.
Whoa - well I certainly scored crash of the day!!
Was cruising nicely along at 37 knots on JP45 /Warp 6.3 through a section of small tightly spaced chop, around 15-20cm and trying to keep my weight right off the board to fly over it. Somehow my front foot slipped completely out of the front strap (I may have pushed my "high boom" strategy too far this time). I have had the front foot out situation before and gone through the massive panic, but always managed to get it back in and take a few deep breaths.
Not this time - it stayed out and time began to slow...first the sense of horror!!!!!!!!, then then inevitable loss of all control...AAARRGGHHH...then the almighty SMASH!!!...then I'm in the air.....then another smash, a bounce and a roll and I'm fifteen metres away from the wreckage of my gear, covered in mud. First the sense of relief that my body is intact... and then I see that my mast is broken...oops. I trudge back through the thigh deep sludge to discover that the boom is also snapped clean in two places. Ummm...what to do? Two km of deep mud and weed await. This is going to take a long time and the only thing that REALLY bothered me was that I was gonna miss two hours of sailing in blissful 25-30 knots and flat water!! Aaarrgghhh!
The only way to progress was to lie on my back and try to pull myself along backwards in small steps with what little traction I could get in the mud. Chris Porter stopped to see whather e could help, but what could he do??
Anyway, I made it back to shore exhausted by 6pm and immediately grabbed my pre-rigged 5.2 to head back out for what was left. Conditions were still excellent so it was fun buzzing around with Sailquik, Kato and Spotty for another hour or so.
I thought I had nailed some nice NMs earlier, although I had pulled out of all of them early ( had 40 knots for 1000m!), and my alpha attempts were all too wide. The crash put an end to an hour attempt but all in all, it was still a great trip! Once nice PB, some good solid speeds in great conditions, and also had the pleasure of catching up with Chris Dimond, Hamma and Choco again, and meeting Kimba, David and Richard of SA Speed Demons.
Should be some great numbers from the others today as conditions would have been perfect, but I had to go...
