Great day at Makkum. When Gerrit and I arrived there was a solid 10 knots wind. I only had my f159 and rs4 11,6 with me so no choice for me. When i had rigged the sail the wind suddenly dropped to 2 knots. So we waited for the wind, the winddirection was changed from south to northeast. Than the wind picked up again and we went on the water.
I could plane quite easily and could sail from de afsluitdijk to Holle poarte, but that was not such a good idea cause the water is not deep enough and you have to stay in the deep zone. After 20km of cruising the wind was blowing harder and harder. I was at the Holle poarte and had to go downwind in very hard wind and big waves, i was pretty tired when i arrived at the beach. The topspeed with the f159 was 49km.
Gerrit was sailing his 8,5 and it was too much for him eighter, so i changed to his gear, the hypersonic 96 and the v8 8,5. Gerrit took his 6,1 expression.
The rest of the afternoon i was racing over and between the waves and could make some nice speedruns, it was very much fun dragracing on Gerrit his equipment, i tried to crash it and smack it up, but happily for Gerrit it didn't happen. No Gerrit just kidding :-)
I was very surprised that the wind picked up so hard, because they predicted 9-10 knots, and it was twice as much. I think there are a few people who made a mistake today by not checking the conditions. We had a great day.
The board is very controlable, it was easy piecy in the waves with the hyper. Im pretty satisfied with the speed i could realise. Although the sail was from time to time a bit of a handful. With my own rs5 8,4 i could have gone at least a knot faster i think in these conditions. Great to see that such a wide board is also fast in these conditions. I always thought wide is slow, but that is not completely true.
