thanks to ghost of speed!

When driving to the Brace did you expect the conditions would become epic?

Yes iIdid expect gusts around 50knots. We arrived way to early after 2 days of waiting full of adrenaline for the wind to come. The angle was a surprise and the wind was even gusting up to 55knots .

Do you feel you took the right gear or could you, in hindsight have gone faster taking a smaller sail?

I could have taken a smaller sail and was really the hardest decision of the day. Maybe I would have been faster with a smaller sail but I prefer to have power

Do you think we're reaching the limits with the gear we're now using or do you think there is still room for improvement?

I Think we are still improving big time. Sailbrands are picking up the speed again and putting speedsails in the range. Fins keep getting better with more controle less drag and safer and the widebase was a huge step. Maybe in speedboards we can make a big step. But it has to be radical and and would probably be harder to sail upwind. I think 100km/h mark will be crossed peakspeed in the coming years. We just need the conditions.

On the film footage shot by Angelo Pecere the waterstate doesn't seem all that flat. The angle seemed to be pretty broad. Is that correct?

For the perfect speed it could have had more angle but not much. Think the tide has to be lower for record conditions. Because now we enter the speedstrip to slow because of chop would rather enter it going 38knots instead of 20. The water was rough going on the course but as soon as ur in the run and accelerate the water looks flatter and when you do 25meters a second it feels like a carpet

The fight between Jurjen and you was very close. Who do you consider to be the main contenders for your new record (Nationally and Internationally)?

My teammate Jacques v/d Hout is my biggest contender next to Jurjen v/d Noord. And international The top pwa guys incl FM and AB if they dare to challenge it and post ;) In England Steve (Daisy) Thorp big respect for how this guy slingshots and the Australian top Craig and Chris if they ever get wind at Sandy Point.

Visually there seems to be a big difference in style between you and Jurjen. Could you describe your style?

My style is more loose and free also use a waistharness instead of seat. And the sailtrim is way different

You have been training like a madman together with Jacques van der Hout. How has this affected your performance over the last years?

Last years i was happy we could do really much high wind training 2010 in France. And 2011 we got some good winds in Holland and having Jacques as a trainingbud really kept me going. If u make a mistake speeding with him he will be faster and when he is you are even more motivated to go faster and learn to get more from your gear

Speed forever!!!!!
