gps-speedsurfing

It has been a great year.... just imagine that we started in 2004 with 3415 per year session and this boosted to 22.705 sessions this years, an average higher than 60 sessions per day worldwide !

We had new members signing in every day, in total more than 500 new members in 2014.

Some highlights:

- The fastest session of the year was by Patrick Patrik Diethelm, with an amazing average speed of 51.63 knots...

- The longest distance in 24 hours was set by Dennis Klaaijsen hammering it at 728 KM's...

- Fastest Alpha has been set by Jacques Van Der Hout 30,45 knots...

-Last not but Least, the #1 position in the Evaluated Ranking also by Jacques van der Hout, with 6687 point, scoring an overall #1 postion at 10 out of 12 months !!!

For next year we are working on a big project to upgrade the website to a new platform. This will give us more performance, stability and the possibilties to enhance the visuals of the site. At the same time our technology group is working on new GPS devices, we expect to make some good progress in January. So a lot is going on at www.gps-speedsurfing.com, we keep you posted in the next months, meantime enjoy your speedsessions as much as you can !

Happy New Year & Good winds from The GPS-Speedsurfing.com team

Congratulations for all record holders and for the continuing effort of keeping the site attractive !

As an ex-programmer and now full time allround IT consultant, I would however like to point out that there's a risk in "enhancing the visuals of the site". True, the increasing use of tablets and smart phones is driving the visual layout of many websites nowadays, but visual changeovers are not always a succes IMHO. The spacious, roomy layout intended to fill a tablet display does not work well on a fixed computermonitor, as I am sure that many of us still use to upload data and consult many of the sites features. It wastes a lot of screen estate and the less condensed way of representing information causes a loss of oversight and structure. I hope the developers will find a balanced middle ground between what current visual fashion dictates and what the concise and condensed way of representing content requires... To my taste, the visual layout of the site as it is today is just perfect.

There are some potential functional changes that could enhance the site a great deal, e.g. clicking on a piece of equipment (board, fin, etc.) in a user profile gives some stats about PR's and frequencies etc. But e.g. max speed for a fin is not clickable. It would be nice if a click on the speed would bring up the session for that rider. Exploiting the database tot the max !

This is just my 5 cents. I have been enjoying the use of this very appealing and content-rich since 2 years now and hope to be able to enjoy it for much longer, if health and physical fitness allows :).

Happy 2015 to all riders !

Pat, thanks for your feedback, we will put this on our backlog, both the visuals & stats, we will keep you posted !
